AAP Commends Reps Jeffries and Marino for Leadership in Copyright Small Claims Initiative
The Association of American Publishers commends Representatives Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Tom Marino (R-PA) for their championing of copyright protection and introducing H.R. 5757, the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement (CASE) Act of 2016. The legislation establishes a process for creators of works of original expression to vindicate their exclusive rights with respect to infringements of low-economic value.
With a membership that includes many small businesses and nonprofits, AAP looks forward to working with the cosponsors and other members of Congress to achieve the bill’s objective of providing a streamlined but effective alternative to expensive, time-consuming litigation in federal court for individuals and other copyright owners with only modest means to protect their rights in the works they create and distribute.
